A load of rubbish has been written about this incident showing most writers have little knowledge of cricket.
Green bowled a bad bouncer to Bairstow who easily avoid it as it goes to Carey. It is the LAST ball of the over. He then marks his wicket and sees the Kiwi umpire out od the corner of his eye walk towards him indicating the over is over!
Bairstow then walks down the wicket. He at no time is attempting a run. Carey throws the ball at the stumps and breaks them.
There is an appeal and the umpires go to the 3rd umpire who gives Bairstow out.
He was out under the laws of cricket but the action was not commensurate with the spirit of cricket.
At no time di the umpire at square leg say hw was walking to the stumps BEFORE the call of over. He should have. The umpires should have asked Cummins whether he wanted to withdraw the appeal. If he di not want to they should have said okay we will now umpire very very technically!
The whole episode left a bad taste in the mouth from a game Australia was never going to lose.
I should have added those attempted 'stumpings' by Bairstow on Warner were when he was IN the crease and during the over. He was merely trying to play with Warner's mind and get him to play a rash shot. It was nothing like Bairstow's situation.
