The NBN Report

The report commissioned by the Government is out. We have not been told why this was not done by Infrastructure Australia.
Thus far we have:

The large failure of the committee is that it spells out that the present government's plan is the best one in terms of the costs and benefits BUT it doesn't know about the quality of the copper network between the fibre optic and the house.

As M0nty spells out in a comment to me on his blog the costs are more than likely to blow out significantly. Moreover this means ip so facto the benefits are much lower than calculated as well. Moreover Telstra has for some time been replacing copper when they know about it had degraded past its use by date with fibre optic.

A cost/benefit analysis is only as good as the assumptions made and what has been left out in this escapade.
