Paul Samuelson is one of the more esteemed academic economists of our time. I have to say I thought him overrated after reading Joan Robinson demolishing him in the cambridge capital controversies. ( Incidentally Joan Robinson who was no beauty was possibly the best writer of economics I have read!) The cambridge controversy was a mere interesting but esoteric titbit in economics.
Andrew Gelman completely takes apart Samuelson in a short but highly interesting article.
Okay he now thinks he was wrong on some things!
