On the surface it is madness there are so many candidates in republican primaries. Trump has a solid number of base ( in all terms of the word) votes. since republican primaries are winner take all then Trump would win most primaries with a small proportion of the vote as he di in 2016.
We know the candidates are not stupid so why are they all still attempting to win the primaries.
Let me put up two reasons and I confess I am not original.
- Firstly Trump is obese and an elderly man. his health is questionable. He might have health problems that leads to him withdrawing.
- Secondly and much more likely is that trump's legal problems will mount up. He will be in court and might even be in gaol in primary season.
If Trump for what ever reason cannot be the candidate then it is game on.
