Andrew Hastie is over rated and other advice to the Liberal party

Andrew Hastie quit the Opposition front bench last week. I find him highly over rated. He originally won his seat in a by-election. He did not realise at the time nor now he only won it because Turnbull replaced Abbott as Leader. He was heading towards defeat before that. He suppressed his christian beliefs until he was elected. Once elected and confident it was a safe seat he then proceeded to tell us all out his beliefs.

In the last election he said defence had to increase as a % of GDP. He neither told what the expenditure would be on or how it would be paid. When pressed he said greater growth would pay for the increase. Whoopsy if GDP increases so does expenditure because you are increasing expenditure as a % of GDP. He didn't seem to understand this very basic statistical fact.

He is now supporting building nuclear power stations and coal power stations together with gas  power stations. Now it happens they are easily the most expensive forms of power.

He also wants a much lower immigration. He has not really addressed what this means for overseas students , a major export, or for filling highly skilled vacancies.

All in all highly unimpressive.

He also thinks the Liberals need to move right and take back votes from one nation. Hedoes not seem to realise they get most of them on preferences. This gets back to basics. If the Liberals cannot win back seats from the teals they cannot win government.

This leads us to the distinct lack of talent in the Liberal party. Here is a question. If you replaced Ley as Leader with whom would you replace her with? Moreover you need shadow ministers to take on their ministerial counterparts. How many are doing this? You cannot rely on the ALP to be incompetent and/or fight amongst themselves.

They should target vulnerable ministers who are not up to the job. Then tie that to Albo's judgement. If the Opposition walk away from net zero then they can be accused climate denial and the cities will still look like an electoral ghost town.

This is going to be hard yakka. go back into history and examine what Keating did in Opposition. He was tireless and was so successful Fraser had to change his minster to the senate to get away from Keating!

We need a change of government sooner not later!
