AEMO fed up with Murdoch press lies

I was wondering when this would eventually occur.

See  aemo-slams-murdoch-media-campaign-that-claims-renewables-are-not-low-cost

I am constantly amused by people who allege they trust markets but then say they simply have not understood the electricity market.

Courtesy of many State governments the wholesale market is now in private sector hands. NO company wants to build a coal fired power station. It takes at least 8 years and will be over twice as expansive as renewables AND the units will break down continually in hot weather!

Nuclear is even worse. They take about 15 years to build and then they will be some 40 times what some renewables will be. It appears the costs of modular units are higher than those of large nuclear power plans. We still  have no idea of what to do with their nuclear waste as yet.

Moreover they both have the disadvantage of only producing base load power. This means they have to be going 24 hours a day. Public companies do not want to produce power when demand is low at night. They want dispatchable power so they can roughly match demand and supply.

I am bemused the coalition wants to have modular  plants put in old coal fired power plants. This does nothing even in the medium term to build up supply and moreover it buils in much higher prices. Good luck with that.
