The Opposition is a big supporter of nuclear power.
On nuclear power see:
- renew energy

- Graham Readfearn
Just a few quick comments. Coal plants are so much cheaper than nuke ones and take half the time to build yet the private sector does not want a bar of them. Ipsofacto supporting nuclear power is simply a de facto way of re-nationalising the grid with the taxpayers to take all the risks. Once going they would have to subsidise the nuclear power prices for some 40-50 years and force retailers to take their energy
No-one has solved the problem of nuclear waste either. Where is it going to go?
We aint going to build a power station quicker that the UAE so what is going to happen to the grid in the meantime.
If you want to put SMRs into old coal fired power stations then the taxpayer is going to have to buy them off their owners!
Base load power is unwanted when the wholesale marker is owned by the private sector . They want dispatchable power so demand can match supply.
Nuclear power just does not make economic sense.
